Maternity Leave Revisited

Thanks for checking in MeAndBaby! And thanks to everyone for your super supportive comments.

Well, it seems I will get to stay home for another month. I'm actually shocked at how well my phone conversations went and how flexible people were.

My boss told me to "come back whenever you want...just let me know...and do you want part time? You can work as much or as little as you want." That is uncharacteristically nice of her.

The TOTALLY INCOMPETENT human resources woman was okay with me extending my leave as long as the chief of psychiatry okayed it (which she did). She also had forgotten to stop my health insurance, so I get it FREE for the next month. That is one time that this woman's incompetence worked in my favor!

So I gave them a re-start date of May 11th. I'm trying to move forward and find childcare that I am comfortable with. I'm talking to people about nannies and about how to interview them, what to offer them, etc. I'm going to start leaving Allie in small doses so that I can get used to the separation. THIS IS GOING TO BE HARD, but I can work towards doing it. (I still hate it though.)

I need to decide if I want to work 3 full days or 5 afternoons. What do you think?

At the same time, I'm thinking of moving out of nyc. So I'm beginning to look for jobs and thinking about where I can live. This all gets to be TOO MUCH at times so I have to slow down and work on one thing at once. I am determined to enjoy as much of the next 5 weeks at home as I can and will be angry at myself if I spend the whole time stressed out.

Allie continues to be the light and the calm in all this craziness. I can't imagine life without her.

That is so great that you get extra time and they are willing to be so flexible! Be sure to take them up on that.

Three full or five afternoons? That's a tough one. I guess it will mostly depend on what kind of child care you can find. How full would the three days be? and would be they be spread out over the week?

Yay for being able to stay home another month. In talking about 3 full days I am assuming you work 12's? If that is the case I know what you mean as I do also and love having 4 days a week off. But you may not see much of Allie on the days you do work. It's a hard choice.
And another big decision moving out of NYC. Wow. Good luck with the job hunt etc. I hope you find a situation that works great.

How lovely of your boss to let you have all the time you need! And I think it's a great idea to start leaving Allie a few hours here and there so that both of you can get used to the seperation (hope you find a good day care or nanny soon!).

That's great you can stay home. Lot's of changes to come. I don't know about the shifts, three twelves is a long time away from her but then you get four days of solid mom and baby time. Where are you thinking of moving?

Awesome! Tough decisions. No advice, but glad you have the extra time to figure it out. But let's get together before you move!!

This is great--so glad you worked something out. You can ease into the next step this way...

Gosh, I would probably take the 3 days over the 5 pms. Just sounds nice to have such a stretch of time without work. Wondering if childcare would be more difficult though with longer days.

That is so great that you get another month off!! What a terrific boss you have.

If it were me, and the childcare worked out, I would probably take the 3 days over the 5. Granted they are longer days but that's 2 less days that you have to leave her and gives you 2 more full days with her. If I took afternoons, I would be thinking each morning about how I would have to leave soon. But that's just me. And I'm sure childcare will play a role in your decision.

Good for you to work out another month and have a plan to start leaving Allie in small doses. And her new picture made me laugh out loud. What a cutie!!
